Place 2nd as a Team With Unoffical Points Scored

The Simley Spartans finished their season with a strong performance at the Minnesota Individual State Wrestling Tournament.  The weekend started with the Spartans having a dominant first round winning all 8 first round matches, knocking off a #2 and a #4 seed.  Throughout the weekend, the qualifiers continued their dominance with 6 of the 8 wrestlers finishing in the top six of their brackets.

126 - Cael Berg finished 5th - Moving up a weight class and being unseeded, Cael knocked off multiple ranked wrestlers to have a strong tournament and place for the 2nd time in his career

132 - Jake Gliva finished 1st - Capping a remarkable career with his 3rd state title, Gliva dominated his opponents with technical falls and scoring at least 11 points in each of his matches and outscoring his opponents 66-20

138 - Antonio Everett finished 6th - Unseeded Antonio knocked off the #2 seed wrestler in his 1st match and cam back through the field to place 6th.  Antonio suffered an injury in the wrestlebacks, but not before he wrestled an outstanding tournament.

145 - Nolan Wanzek finished 2-2.  Nolan had a strong showing with great performances and heartbreaking close matches.  Finished one match away from reaching the podium

152 - Quayin Short finished 2nd - Freshman Quayin Short out performed his opponents in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds to get to the finals.  Although the score wasn't in his favor in the championship, he dominated his opponent by riding him for the final 4 minutes of the match earning 3 stalling calls

160 - Jacob Hageman finished 6th - Starting off the tournament beating the #4 seed, Jacob truly battled in every match to find himself on the podium placing 6th and solidifying himself as one of the best in the state at his weight.

220 - Daniel Kerkvliet  finished 1st - To win his 3rd title in a row, Greg pinned his first 3 opponents in a total of 1 minute and 32 seconds before recording a 20-4 technical fall in the beginning of the 3rd period.  This route is arguably the most dominant of the State Wrestling Tournament.

285 - Luke Zaiser finished 1-2.  Luke completed his career with the 3rd trip to the Xcel Energy Center.  Luke has had a great career with the Spartans and as always gave it all in every match including this weekend.
