During a varsity dual tournament this weekend, 2 wrestlers hit impressive milestones while helping their team to go 3-0 on the day. After the first dual of the day at Bloomington Kennedy High School, Jake Gliva notched his 200th win in varsity competition for Simley High School. Jake has been wrestling in varsity matches since 7th grade and is currently a 3 time state finalist and 2 time state champion. Simley beat Champlin Park 72-3 in that dual. Simley moved on to dominate long time rival Hastings 54-16 in their 2nd dual.
In the last dual of the day the Spartans took on Zumbrota-Mazeppa, a team ranked 1st in Single A. The dual was hard fought and came down to heavyweight, where Z-M bumped up their #1 ranked 220 pound wrestler to take on Luke Zaiser. The match ended with Luke controlling the entire match and winning 4-0, sealing the match for the team and marking down his own 100th win. Luke is also a senior and has been wrestling varsity since 9th grade earning state qualifier status multiple times. Simley won the final dual 31-29.
