Simley wins it 17th team title, crowns 4 champions, 3 place winners

The Simley Spartans capped off the 2023-2024 season with earning its 17th (and 6 straight) team title, along with having some great success in the individual portion of the MSHSL state tournament.  The Spartans started their team tournament with a dominant win over Little Falls, 46-18.  The proceeded that Thursday to the semifinals against a tough Becker team.  Simley won 8 matches, and took the dual 43-23.  This set up another final match of the team state championship against Kasson Mantorville.  The dual started out with the Spartans taking the first 5 matches, which set the tone for the rest of the dual.  After a tough loss at 139, Derrick Dohmen upset Jonah Coleman in a rematch from the Cheeseheead tournament earlier this year.  Followed by a dominant match by Cash Raymond, the dual was looking in favor of the Spartans, but it wasn't yet solidified.  That was until Vristol Short bumped up to 189 to wrestle Jacob Duitsman, and pulled off a magnificent throw in overtime to put the dual out of reach and win the match.  This team performance was one that will go in the record books for years.

On the individual end, Simley had 7 placewinners, and 4 of those placewinners were champions.
107 - Turner Ross  - Champion
Completed his undefeated weekend, and 51-1 season record with a dominant win in the finals to win his first High School State Championship

114 - Austin Gryzwinski - Champion
Finished his career on top.  Great finish to the tournament with a dominant win over Joel Freidrichs

118 (Girls Division) - Charli Raymond - Champion
This makes 3 straight champinships for Charli.  No match was close for her this year, as she was dominant throughout the year

127 - Jake Kos - 3rd
Jake had an outstanding tournament with his lone loss in the semifinals.  Was able to avenge a loss from last years state tournament in the consolation semifinals against Logan Schwanz

133 - Justus Heeg - Champion
Outstanding poise for an 8th grader throughout his 1st state tournament.  Was able to beat an undefeated senior, returning state champion in the finals with an impressive performance.

152 - Cash Raymond - Runner Up
Cash had an outstanding career, placing in the top 3 in the state 5 times.  One of the best all time to come out of Simley high school

189 - Danny Martin - 6th
Danny fought his way through the tournament, battling to a 6th place finish.  Avenged a loss from the team tournament in the placing round to cap off a great career.

The Spartans have a bright future ahead of them with 8 returning state entrants, 4 of them being the aforementioned placewinners.  Also 2 returning 9th grade state runners up.  The work continues to come back and win a 7th straight championship!
