Simley Has Success at All Levels This Week

The Simley Wrestling Program had a great week of growth and success this week with competition at all ages and levels.  On Thursday, The Varsity and JV competed at Henry Sibley alongside the youth.  The JV and Varsity won all but 4 matches the entire night with the Varsity winning 61-9.  The youth team had a great night as well, winning a lot of matches and wrestling hard, showing how they're improving.

After Thursday, it was time to focus on our competitions on Saturday: youth in Forest lake and South Saint Paul, Middle School in Coon Rapids, and High School at #5AA Ranked Perham.

The youth had a great showing of wrestlers winning tournaments and getting strong matches at two locations on Saturday.  Wrestlers accomplished winning their first matches, first tournaments, and for some returned to the top of the podiums with a great showing at South Saint Paul and Forest Lake.

The Middle School team traveled to Coon Rapids to compete in a 16 team dual tournament on Saturday.  They began their day beating Blaine and then Princeton, before moving on to knock off Coon Rapids in the semifinals.  Owatonna got the better of the Middle School team in the end, but the day was capped with a strong finish of 2nd place for the boys.

Finally, our JV and Varsity traveled to Perham, Minnesota to compete against one of the best AA teams in the state.  The JV started off with some hard fought battles, highlighted with pins from Chris Celis and Brad Dohman and a win b y Travis Dohman.  Varsity then began, and got rolling as Zach Miller knocked off a state ranked #5 wrestler Owen Werner.  Followed by 2 pins and 2 technical falls by Cael Berg, Gavin Nelson, Luis Fiero, and Jake Gliva.  At 152, and 160 Simley kept gaining bonus points with a Technical Fall, and Major Decision from Quayin Short and Jacob Hageman.  The Spartans capped the day with two 1st period pins from Greg Kerkvliet and Luke Zaiser.  Simley overcame the Perham Yellowjackets 46-25.
