State Championships are won in the off-season!

Back to Back! Kyle Gliva and Jake Short win MN/USA Triple Crown. Nick Wanzek Double Champ.

Kyle Gliva repeated his 2007 performance and won the triple crown in 2008. Gliva, in his first year in the Schoolboy division, won the MN/USA Folkstyle State Championship at 91 pounds. Gliva dropped to 84 pounds for the MN/USA Greco and Freestyle State Tournament. Gliva went 5-0 to capture the Greco State Championship and 5-0 in Freestyle to secure the triple crown in MN/USA Wrestling.

Jake Short won the Triple Crown in 2007 as a first year Schoolboy, and that would pave the way to his second Triple Crown as a second year Schoolboy in 2008. Short won the MN/USA Folkstyle State Championship earlier this year at 105 pounds. Short wrestled 105 pounds at MN/USA Greco and Freestyle State and finished the two tournaments at 10-0. Short did not give up a single point in either style of wrestling.

Gliva and Short will represent Minnesota on the Schoolboy Dual Team that will compete in Indianapolis in June. Joining These two on the Schoolboy Dual Team will be Nick Wanzek at 136. Wanzek placed second at Folkstyle State at 120. Wanzek moved all the way up to 136 and won both the Freestyle and Greco state championships. Wanzek went 7-0 for the weekend.

Simley success at Freestyle and Greco State...

At the Greco State Tournament, Jake Gliva was the youngest Simley competitor wrestling. Jake went 4-0 and was crowned the Greco Champion at Midget-55. Mack Short at Novice-80 only lost a close match to the eventual champion, and finished 4-1 and placed 3rd. Kyle Gliva, Jake Short, and Nick wanzek all won Greco titles in the Schoolboy division. In the Cadet division, Robin Schauls went 4-1 at 112 and finished 3rd place. Cola Jensen at 112 finished 4-1 and placed 2nd. Matt Kruse at 119 went 3-2 and placed 4th. Micah Barnes went 1-2 and did not place at 125; it was Micah's first tournament in Greco. Dan Dick finished 2nd at 125, Dan was 5-1.

Simley Freestyle. Peewee divison Ryan Sokol wrestling in his first state freestyle tournament went 1-1 and finished 2nd place. Travis Dohmen also wrestling in his first freestyle tournament went 1-2 and placed 4th at 55. Jake Gliva at midget 55 went 3-1 and finished 2nd place. Also in the midget division at 75lbs Brad Dohmen competed but did not place. In the novice division 80lbs, Mack Short finishes 5-0 and was crowned the MNUSA freestyle champion. Mack qualified with Jake Gliva to compete in the Goodwill duals with Wisconson in midget in Novice divisions. CONGRATULATIONS MACK SHORT AND JAKE GLIVA. In the schoolboy division Kyle Gliva, Jake Short and Nick Wanzek all won state titles (see back to back poat). Trevor Schauls competed at 136lbs and did not place. In the cadet division at 112 Robin Schauls went 3-2 and placed 5th. Dylan Wright who has moved back to Inver Grove and is all ready back at Simley High school went 4-1 and placed 3rd at 112lbs. Cola Jensen went 4-1 and placed 2nd at 112lbs. Matt Kruse at Cadet 119 went 5-1 and placed 2nd. Micah barnes competed but did not place at 125. Dan Dick had to injury default out of the freestyle tournament. Tommy Glenn wrestling at 135 was nursing some injuries and still went 1-2. Luke Perkerwicz at 189lbs went 2-2 and placed 5th.
